Christy seemed the lock for Newcomer of the Year but contests are never a sure thing. Norwegian Alena Snow actually had a slight edge with magazine readers and their paper ballots while Christy steamrolled everyone in the Scoreland voting process. Combining all the numbers including direct email, Christy was still the safe bet, considering her age (19), girl-next-door prettiness, naturalness and photographic personality. It seemed fitting to use Christy’s bride pictorial to dramatize her victory.
